Dear Editor,
I’ve been a student at ETSU for the past two years, and I have parked my car in the same parking lot. I do not pull through or back in; I do not park in instructor parking nor do I park illegally in any red zone. When I returned to my car I had a ticket on my windshield.
This is the first ticket I’ve received at ETSU. It was issued for not having a parking decal. My decal is clearly displayed in my rear window on the driver’s side. I took the ticket to parking services and explained to the student worker that I did have a decal. He looked at my car and stated “the windows were pretty dark.”
My car windows only have factory tinting on them and I do not think they are dark enough not to see my decal but you can’t argue with someone who has a cell phone stuck to their ear while you are trying to discuss a ticket issued wrongly.
My car is on the dusty side but washing it is not on the top of my priority list. So, the only conclusion I could come to for the ticket was having a dirty car. The last time I checked, it is not illegal nor does it deserve a ticket. The only other explanation would be that the person printing the ticket did not take the time to look at the sticker or maybe they are trying to speed up the funding for the new parking garage. I do not have to pay the ticket but in the future it would be nice if the people issuing the tickets would pay greater detail to their job.
