Monty’s earns her A-Sun Player of the WeekETSU women’s soccer forward Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) earned her first Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honor of 2008 season, the conference announced Monday.
The junior helped the Bucs clinch a spot in its fourth A-Sun conference tournament, after firing in both game-winning goals against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast, this past weekend. Against the Hatters the junior found the back of the net early in the first half, allowing ETSU to hold on to the 1-0 victory. Then on Senior Day Sunday, Monty scored the game-winner with less than three minutes off the clock in double overtime.
Currently, Monty ranks fourth in the conference in shots (54), third is shots per game (3.60), while leading the league in game-winning goals (4). This marks the second time in her career that Monty has been named the league’s Player of the Week.
Coastal Carolina edges out ETSU by one stroke
For the third straight year the ETSU men’s golf team was in contention to claim its first-ever Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges title, but when the sun settled, Coastal Carolina edged out the Buccaneers by one stroke to capture the crown on Sunday evening.
The Bucs, who have now lost by one stroke in two of the last three years at the BOT, saw a four shot lead evaporate on the 18th hole.
“We played some good golf this weekend and put ourselves in contention to win,” said head ETSU men’s golf coach Fred Warren. North Carolina State’s Darren Blair captured the individual crown, finishing a 6-under in the three-day tournament.
“It feels really good to finally win this event; it was a long time coming,” said Blair. “I really never played well here before, but the biggest thing today was when I birdied the second hole. That putt calmed the nerves and helped me gain some confidence. Hopefully I can now carry this momentum into the spring.
