Dear Editor,
The 2008 election is done and Americans have cast their votes, but is this where all the recently renewed political activism and common sense is cast aside?
We citizens are still under threat from the surveillance state. Our military is still engaged in an imperial foreign policy for profit.
Our public interests are still being subverted by corporate interests.
Do we now retire from our petitioning, marching and protesting to give a blank check to “the new guys”? I answer personally “NO!”
Over the last two years, I have seen Americans of all color, class and character demanding relief and redress, demanding LIBERTY.
I have seen the passion and zest of the liberals, the conviction and pride of the conservatives, and I have been inspired by the ingenuity and tenacity of the independents, the constitutionalists and the revolutionaries.
Do we grow apart now, quietly separating and submitting again to the whim of authority, our “elected officials,” praying and waiting for their repentance from the old ways of greed, lies, coercion and corporatism?
I challenge all to say “NO!” I challenge all to stay awake. Stay active. Please, America. Don’t go back to sleep. Believe in change, but dream with your eyes open!
Together, all sides, all oaths and creeds, can unite by embracing the Constitution, embracing our uniquely American republic, and by embracing activism.
Yes, you should hold close your own causes, but we must work together toward holding personal freedom, social freedom and economic freedom as one in the same.
In doing so, we will bear the twilight of the tyrants and birth the dawn of America’s political renaissance.
