The Lady Buccaneers’ volleyball team’s starting line changed Tuesday night.
Freshman Jamie Stancliff and Mallory Kiley played as the middle block throughout the match.
Freshman McKayla Barber was out for the match because of an injury in practice. “I dislocated my fingers the other day,” said Barber. “I hope I play Friday, but it depends on how I feel.”
This did not seem to faze the team. Kiley ended with eight kills and Stancliff with five. Brooks Gym had a substantial amount of fans who cheered on the Bucs to a victory over Radford in three short matches.
The first match ended 25-14, with a kill by Stancliff.
The second match was another rude awakening for Radford.
Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Baufield started with a hard hit on the right side.
She had a total of four kills for the night and 187 for the season thus far.
In a strange turn of events the Highlanders began to catch up, their quick kills began to catch ETSU off guard.
Once the Bucs regained their momentum, Youell had two consecutive blocks with Kiley then Stancliff. ETSU won 25-21.
The beginning of the third match started out with some substitutions made by head coach Lindsey Divine.
Freshman Kelley Coker came in to set in place of Youell, and freshman Courtney Cotter from Chattanooga came in to hit from the outside.
Sophomore Whitney Cogburn got the Bucs going with a hit off the block and then served twice.
Unlike the other matches it was neck and neck, and the game was full of long volleys and intense calls.
After a very hard hit by outside Ryan and a kill by Cogburn the match was tied 24-24.
After a very long rally and some great digs, another kill by Ryan got the crowd and Coach Divine on their feet.
Finally a block by Ryan got the Bucs the victory 28-26.
After the game Mallory Kiley said, “I had some big shoes to fill with McKayla being out and I knew what I needed to do.”
The Bucs next play USC Upstate on Nov. 11. For more information, visit the ET online at www.easttennessean.com.
