Dear Editor,
I am sick of reading people blowing this blackface party deal out of proportion. Hopefully I can be the last letter about the ridiculous issue.
I was sitting in the Culp Center the other day and noticed that there was a huge Tropic Thunder movie poster hanging. Also, when I just now logged onto this computer in the computer lab, there was a Tropic Thunder advertisement about it showing in the Culp Center at 7 on Friday. What is significant about this? Robert Downey Jr. plays a man who is “blackfaced” in this movie. He is not supposed to be any particular celebrity, he is just blackfaced.
Now why is it that some dudes can’t dress up as their favorite celebrities, but it’s OK to show a movie to ETSU for free where Downey is blackfaced?! My answer is there is nothing wrong with any of this. Dave Chappell even paints his face white sometimes. So get over it people, there is nothing wrong with this. Enough of your bleeding hearts.
