Lady Bucs give Vanderbilt a close match, 66-55The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team have been averaging 30-point wins in its first three contests, but on Friday night in front of the largest crowd to witness a Lady Buccaneer game, the Commodores had to survive every punch ETSU threw at them. However, when it was all said and done, the 12th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores escaped with the 66-55 non-conference victory in front of 3,459 raucous fans inside Memorial Center.
Friday night proved to be a special evening for the Lady Buccaneers and ETSU Athletics, as the “Pack the House” event was very successful. The Lady Bucs return to action on Wednesday night when they host former SoCon rival Appalachian State. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Fans who bring two or more canned food items receive $1 admission to the game. All food items donated Tuesday and on Wednesday will be donated to the South Side Mission of Johnson City.

ETSU athletics to help local boxing, martial arts club

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Johnson City Athletic Club have reached an agreement to give youngsters participating in the sports of boxing and martial arts a place to train during the winter months.
In a cooperative effort between Buccaneer athletics, the JCAC, and the Johnson City Housing Authority, ETSU’s Memorial Center will be made available for training throughout the winter months, and Brooks Gym will be used for future amateur boxing events.
Ed Zimbicki, executive director of the Johnson City Housing Authority and founder of the JCAC, explained just how important the JCAC has been in helping young athletes develop both their skills in the ring and in life.
Since its inception in 2000, the JCAC has presented opportunities for the youth of Johnson City interested in boxing and martial arts. JCAC is headquartered at 403 Harrison Street across from Kiwanis Park. JCAC is a joint venture between the City of Johnson City and the Johnson City Housing Authority.
