The ETSU volleyball team saw its season come to end Friday night as they were swept by top-seeded Lipscomb in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun tournament at the University Center in Macon, Ga., 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 22-25).
The Bucs (12-20, 7-13 A-Sun) were led offensively by Desiree Dyck as she totaled ten kills hitting .381 (10-2-21) in the match. Amanda Youell collected 27 assists as she quarterbacked the ETSU attack, while freshman Jen Neice had 17 digs on the night.
“Despite being a young team, we have made great strides.” Devine said. “I know as a coaching staff we have really enjoyed working with these girls.”
In the first set, the Bisons jumped out to a 6-3 lead, but the Bucs pulled off five straight points to take an 8-6 lead. Lipscomb answered with a 7-3 run to retake the lead 13-11.
Play was back and forth until the Bisons extended their advantage to 22-17. ETSU cut the lead to 22-21 after taking four straight points, but Lipscomb was able to hold on to win the set, 25-21.
ETSU came out flat in the second set as the Bisons quickly got out to a 7-1 advantage.
The Bucs were able to hang around until Lipscomb went on a 6-2 run to go ahead 20-10. The Bisons took the second set 25-15 and held a 2-0 lead going into the break.
Play was even for much of the third set. With Lipscomb up 15-13, the Bucs went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-16 lead.
The Bisons again answered with an 8-2 run on their own to jump back in front 24-21. The match ended on an ETSU attack error to make the final 25-22.
