Dear Editor,
For any of you who wish to complain about the recent economy; especially in East Tennessee, you really do not have a leg to stand on any longer.
In an article by Louis Jones of Kiplinger.com called, “Safe Havens in Real Estate,” which was published Nov. 21, Kiplinger states that there are in fact several cities in the United States that have actually gained in the housing market in the last year.
Johnson City was listed as one of the top 10 that gained in real estate sales. In fact, our city had an apparent 1,100 houses sold last year.
I thought housing development was in trouble. Because of all the whining I have heard in the last year that it was probably true that the American construction was economically in dire need of attention. During the election, all we heard from both sides was, “The economy is so bad. The current economic plans are all wrong.”
Are we seriously going to state that things are so bad when the local economy of Johnson City, as well as at least nine other cities in the entire U.S. did well enough to actually make money?
I do acknowledge that there are tough times for some, but that is no reason to whine. I encourage each of you to seriously consider not complaining in the next 48 hours about your preferences not working out. Like, for instance, don’t complain about how bad you think the economy is, or something as simple as your class schedule for the next spring. Rather than waste your time complaining to others about your futile situations, be positive and think about how great it is to just be alive today. Think positively about how good our economy is compared to others. It is not as bad as you may want to believe.
