As the earth revolves around the sun, seasons come and go. Winter, although considered the harshest season, has its own place in the sequence.
Apart from cursing the chill and freeze that accompanies winter, it would be healthy to make the best out of it, beginning with understanding some points on how winter is important.
First and foremost, nutritionists and farmers say that the most disease-resistant crops, especially wheat, must have survived winter weather.
In order for a wheat plant to maximize its production of fruits, it must pass through the harshness of the winter.
Those crops that can’t withstand the climate are considered less resistant and this also gives the farmers a clue about their soil nutrients and the use of manure.
Thus for farmers, winter gives the chance to have a farm free of pests and also a test of their soil fertility.
We all know the importance of naturally cultivated crops to our health.
Shocking but true, most family bonds are tightened in the winter.
Winter is the perfect season for working family members take breaks and spend time with family.
Everyone seeks warmth from one another because sometimes the heater does not provide enough heat.
Coincidentally, with winter comes the celebration of Christmas and New Year. Families get together and party. Who doesn’t like playing the snow ball game and also decorating a perfectly built snow man?
When winter comes fully, we often take it for granted, but still enjoy the beautiful scenery.
We learn to appreciate nature in its beauty, and the sight of snow on a hill or tree is always stunning.
Most kids and adults start their training and even careers in skiing with the dawn of winter.
Most communities, and even international organizations, take the opportunity to benefit from winter by organizing skiing competions like for downhill skiing and award trophies.
Surprisingly, tattoo experts have it that winter is the perfect season to get a big tattoo. This is because, as they claim, the wounds heal faster and also that there is a low probability of it being infected as a result of dust and sunlight.
By this, I am not in effect encouraging the acquisition of tattoos, but I am bringing out the effect winter has on its effectiveness.
As we bundle up ourselves, there is a need to maximize the effect of winter in all its dimensions.
There is a tendency to eat more since our metabolism is faster now and also the tendency to sleep more and do nothing.
In order to stay healthy, there is the need to watch eating habits and also to even exercise more indoors.
Basler’s Center for Phyical Activity gives students the opportunity to exercise on a regular basis while staying warm in the process.
Studying in groups in the library is also highly encouraged and it helps students stay alert and active.
It is absolutely imperative on our part not to blame a season for our failures but to make the best out of each season. We can’t afford laziness and let life pass us by all because it’s freezing.
What a terrible excuse!
In a nutshell, many a time we learn to appreciate the winter only when it is gone.
We crave for winter more when we experience the scorching sun and heat of summer.
Let us get the record straight: as the earth revolves, seasons change.
Why they do this is not our responsibility, and we can’t really control it.
We can only make sure we go ahead in life and take advantage of every season.
That’s our right.
