Travis Brown, graduating art major at ETSU and East Tennessean photography editor, will be presenting his work, ‘After Hours’, at the Johnson City Area Arts Council this Friday from 6-8 p.m.
His work, which he has been photographing since the summer of 2006, centers on the presence of light, or lack thereof.
“Light paints the landscape either naturally by the moon and stars or unnaturally with fluorescent, sodium or mercury vapor lights,” said Brown in his artist statement. “Under different atmospheric conditions, the skies turn into gradations of color and a dreamlike world takes over. We are now accustomed to this fabricated world and the artificial world is now seen as natural.”
Brown has chosen not to title each individual photograph because he wants the viewer to come up with his or her own conclusions about “when, where and what it is that is in the pictures.”
His work will be on display from now until March 31 at the Arts Council, located at 300 East Main St., #102.
