This May, ETSU students will get the opportunity to visit Dubai with a study abroad pre-summer course that lasts three weeks.
The Mass Communication and Culture in the Middle East class is open to all majors and is worth three credit hours. Students will visit public relations firms, ad agencies, newspapers, television networks, government agencies and universities. They will also have the chance to learn from professionals and interact with students from all over the world.
For fun, students will get the chance to visit cultural sites, such as the ultramodern malls, historic souks and indoor ski slopes.
Dr. John King from the Department of Communication is the faculty member leading the trip. King’s full-time teaching experience in Dubai, which is a part of the United Arab Emirates, from 2006 to 2007 provided him with many professional contacts in the area and a wide knowledge of the nation and its geography.
“Dubai is one of the fastest-growing, most dynamic cities in the world,” said King. “Through this trip, you can globalize yourself and experience it firsthand. And there really is no threat to your safety. The United Arab Emirates is a strong ally of the United States and is very friendly and safe.”
The budget for the trip is estimated at $4,000, and a passport is required. For more info, contact King at johnking@etsu.edu.
