After leading ETSU to a 2-1 record last week, ETSU women’s tennis freshman Paula Jaime earned her first career Atlantic Sun Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week honor the league announced Wednesday. Jaime becomes the second ETSU women’s tennis player to win the weekly award this spring as junior Yevgeniya Stupak earned the honor back on March 4.
The highlight of the week for Jaime had to be her performance in the Lady Bucs’ 4-3 win at Charlotte Sunday afternoon. With the match tied 3-3, Jaime found herself down after dropping her first set to Andrea Rivera, 7-5.
Then with the match riding on her shoulders Jaime would dig deep, rallying to take the second set 6-3. Once the ETSU freshman got rolling little could stop her, as the first-year player blew past Rivera in the final deciding set 6-3 giving ETSU its seventh win on the season.
Also last week, along with doubles teammate Yevgeniya Stupak, Jaime posted a 3-0 doubles record picking up victories over the No. 1 doubles teams of Campbell, Charlotte and Winthrop.
Currently, Stupak and Jaime are riding a nine-match doubles winning streak (9-1) which leads the Lady Bucs.
