Dear Editor,
I’ve read articles and heard comments by students blameing Republicans or Democratics for the situation in America. I believe WE are to blame.
We as a nation have become so complacent, and so “secure.” We have allowed men/women who have become separated from the common man to make decisions for us. These political figures have disregarded the law of the land, the Constitution. This document is a blueprint, and set of rules by which to govern a sovereign country. The Constitution gives every American citizen certain inalienable rights. For those of you who are confused about inalienable; it is defined as unchallengeable, absolute, undeniable, indisputable … etc. I think of inalienable as: only death can take it away,.To my amazement they are being taken away. Many of us do not understand liberty and its true value. Liberty is fragile.
Tyranny is slow and deceiving. It worms its way in, and slowly dissolves liberties away. Liberty is not an illusion, but security is. We have tended to give up liberty for the illusion of security. There is no security in life; it can end at any moment. Liberty gives us all life, the right to protect our life, have religion, speak, vote, etc. Liberty then bestows on us the most amazing one of all: the right to live your life how you see fit, regardless of anyone or anything else.
I believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you feel the same, obtain a copy of the Constitution and read it. Learn about checks and balances. Fight for the Constitution, it’s been fighting for you for 221 years. Never forget: “We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
