Over the weekend, many students may have been spotted at a nearby movie theatre playing the new release “Adventureland,” which brought in a weekend gross of $5.7 million in the box office.
The film was written and directed by Greg Mottola who also directed “Superbad” and episodes of the television series “Arrested Development.”
The film revolves around James Brennan’s (played by Jesse Eisenberg) summer after his college graduation.
Brennan has to forgo his summer trip to Europe because of his dad’s demotion, and ultimately ends up having to get a summer job at a local amusement park, Adventureland. There he is assigned to work the game booths after an unsuccessful plea with his boss (Bill Hader).
Throughout the summer he encounters feisty customers (some even with weapons), sick children and a horrible job. However, he does find a girl that he truly falls in love with, Emily (played by Kristin Stewart).
Eisenberg, a Michael Cera-esque, 26-year-old actor does an amazing job in this movie. His awkward conversations and pitchy voice make for an unbelievably sweet character that you can’t help but fall in love with. Even though this film is one of his first major movies to star in, he proves to be a very talented actor.
Kristin Stewart, better known for her role in the extremely popular “Twilight,” plays an untraditional leading female role which she has proved to be quite good at. Her character’s experience in life seems to balance out Brennan’s lack thereof and they make for an extremely cute and loveable young couple.
This film has an incredible soundtrack, talented actors and it is very comedic as well. It is inspirational and makes the viewer want to experience the kind of relationships that James Brennan forms throughout the movie.
