Dear Editor,
I’ve written about this numerous times. I’m sick and tired of being sick on this darn campus and the students, faculty and staff not caring one whit about who they make sick with the ILLEGAL smoking and all the perfumes and colognes on this campus.
Yes, smoking on campus is ILLEGAL because there is a smoking BAN in place. It needs to be better enforced, especially at the rear of Rogers-Stout Hall at the rail, on the walk near the parking lot, and around the dumpster. I’m there several times a day for classes and I park my car in that lot. I either have to breathe smoke or have to wait for the smokers to finish so I can get to classes on time or go to my car.
Believe it or not, the flowers and trees blooming aren’t bothering me that much because I can avoid the worst offenders of these and use a mask when I can’t avoid some of it. I do not want to have to wear a mask all day when I’m there to keep the scents and smoke out, but I may have to if people on this campus don’t soon get the hint that this is dangerous to ASTHMATICS.
Today, Thursday, April 23, I had a mild asthma episode caused by getting five different scents all at once passing several girls near Rogers-Stout Hall. This forced me to miss a class and go to the Student Health Clinic for treatment. I’m on a steroid and antibiotic to calm down my lungs and had to pay $30 for an injection and throat culture because people on this campus flat don’t care about anyone but themselves.
As I said before, I’m tired of this. I intend to finish my education and we all have to share this campus. Please think about others BEFORE you spray the stinky stuff. Also consider the scented products you use on your laundry. Smokers, get off the sidewalks.
If I pass someone, like the other day, who hides a cigarette and I can’t see it to avoid it, I get triggered into a coughing fit. Please, I can’t handle not being able to breathe, so think people.
