A year ago, the ETSU women’s golf program reached its highest-ever national ranking. In 2010, the Buccaneers hope to climb even further up that prestigious list of names.Finishing 47th in the final Golfstat.com rankings in 2009, the ETSU women begin a new campaign this weekend at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Primm Valley Resort’s Desert Course. The field for this weekend’s invitational tournament will be one of the toughest ever for the ETSU women, as the team’s that comprise the field are only conference champions from the 2008 season.
The Bucs appear to have the talent and experience to compete, returning their entire lineup from a year ago. That group includes senior Laura Jansone, the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference individual champion and player of the year, junior Sinead O’Sullivan, a 2009 A-Sun first team pick, sophomore Nina Muehl, an all-freshman and second team A-Sun pick, and sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo, who was also an all-freshman team selection.
Play in the Golfweek Conference Challenge began Sunday. The challenge will continue into this week, as the second round takes place today and the third and final round will be on Tuesday.
