Noted pianist Chu-Fang Huang will perform in concert at East Tennessee State University on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Mathes Hall. Her performance is the first of seven concerts in the Department of Music’s Chopin 200 series and is also part of the ongoing Powell Piano Series at ETSU, which is designated as an All-Steinway School.
The Chopin 200 series is a year-long celebration focusing on the life and music of the beloved Polish composer and pianist, Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) in the 200th year since his birth. Concerts will include solo works, chamber music and concertos centered on Chopin, presented by guest, faculty and student artists.
According to Dr. Chih-Long Hu, ETSU assistant professor of piano and Chopin 200 series coordinator, video and audio clips of the performances and lectures, as well as interviews with the performers, will be made available on a Web site that is under development. Hu also said that plans are in the works to publish a CD/DVD and booklet on the series.
The Powell Piano Series began in the fall of 2007 in honor of Jim and Sandy Powell and is dedicated to the advancement of solo piano performance by outstanding national and international artists. Huang will perform Chopin’s four “Ballades,” “Sonata No. 2” and “Polonaise in F-sharp minor.”
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, and are available both in advance and at the door. For tickets, more information, or special assistance for those with disabilities, call the ETSU Department of Music at (423) 439-4276.
