After winning the first set, the ETSU volleyball team dropped three straight and fell to Campbell on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Gym, 3-1 (25-20, 16-25, 10-25, 23-25).Whitney Cogburn tied a career-high posting 17 kills in the match with eight digs, while Alysa Long had 11 kills hitting .409 against the Camels. McKayla Barber also had double-digit kills as she tallied 10 kills and five blocks on the day. Senior Amanda Youell had 41 assists, extending her streak of games with 40-plus assists to five, while Jen Niece posted a season-high 23 digs.
Campbell took an early 5-1 lead in the first set, but the Bucs answered by using a 9-1 run to take a 10-6 advantage. The Buccaneers held on to win the set on a Cogburn kill, 25-20.
In the second set, with the scored tied at 12, Campbell went on a 10-2 run to go in front 22-14. The Camels won three of the next five points to take the set 25-16.
The Camels carried their momentum into the third set using runs of six and nine straight points to take a 16-3 lead. Campbell closed out the set 25-10 on an Ashley Weers kill to go ahead 2-1 in the match. Weers led the Camels with five kills in the set.
The Bucs jumped out to a 19-16 lead late in the fourth set, but Campbell went on a 7-1 run to go ahead 23-20. ETSU cut the Camel lead to 24-23 after a couple Long kills, but Campbell went on to win the set 25-23 on a Weers kill.
ETSU (5-9, 4-2 A-Sun) is back in action next Friday at 7 p.m. as the Bucs host first place Lipscomb.
