When Rolling Thunder sent out a call for used backpacks, East Tennessee State University students in the President’s Pride service honorary, with assistance from ROTC cadets, began the search. About 40 useable backpacks were collected.
Rolling Thunder is dedicated to supporting United States veterans and to accounting for American prisoners of war as well as those missing in action.
The organization’s volunteers will clean the packs and fill each with a tarp, fleece blanket and warm clothing.
Homeless people, many of whom are veterans, will then have an easily carried resource to combat winter’s cold weather.
