The Student Ceramic Association of East Tennessee State University will host guest artist Nick Joerling on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23. The event is free and open to the public.
Joerling, a nationally known potter, will give a demonstration at the ETSU Art Annex from 10 a.m.-noon, and again from 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 22, followed by a lecture and slide show from 4-5 p.m.
On Oct. 23, Joerling will offer a demonstration from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Joerling has maintained his potter’s studio in Penland, N.C., since the mid-1980s. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton (Ohio), and he holds a Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University.
Widely reviewed and exhibited, Joerling has taught in craft programs across the country and is represented in public and private collections, including the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, N.C., and the Roger Corsaw Collection of Functional American Ceramics at Alfred University in New York.
