“Prayer is as natural an expression of faith as breathing is of life,” wrote 18th century American theologian Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758).A selection of musical prayers by several composers will be presented in “The Prayers,” a free public recital by soprano Dr. Sun-Joo “Sunny” Oh, at East Tennessee State University on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. in Mathes Hall.
Oh is an assistant professor of voice in the ETSU Department of Music. She has been a featured soloist with orchestras throughout the United States and has performed in solo recitals in the U.S., Italy, Germany and her native South Korea. She has also held roles in such operas as “Monsieur Choufleuri,” “The Impresario,” “Don Pasquale” and “The Magic Flute.”
Oh earned a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of South Carolina, a performance certificate from the Boston Conservatory, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Sungshin Women’s University, Seoul, South Korea.
She will be joined by fellow ETSU music faculty members Dr. Benjamin Caton on piano and Rebecca Paluzzi on flute in her performance.
