It started out like every other mundane day of my college life with a bowl of Raisin Bran and some Sports Center. My roommate told me that Tiger Woods got caught with another woman, and, like many other instances in our friendship, I didn’t believe him.
He simply shrugged his shoulders at the look of disbelief plastered all over my face.
Then, I came to the realization within the next five minutes that he was telling the truth and that Woods had been cheating on his wife for 31 months.
I was in shock that the athlete, who apparently had everything, wanted a little something extra. At first, I was on the fence about the subject and even a little on the side that we should stay out of his personal business.
His statement even made me want to back off a little when he talked about how he was only human and not perfect and how he and his family deserved privacy. I also hate to hear about matters like these when I am watching my morning shows; just show me the highlights and not the low lights.
This had nothing to do with his family though; this was about how a symbol had so quickly fallen from this ridiculous high point that was known as Tiger-topia.
This was no low light either; this was a complete disaster in the eyes of the world.
It is kind of hard to look away from this truly poetic screw-up of the largest magnitude considering how he is viewed.
Woods is a multibillion-dollar business and since we put his achievements on a different stage, why not put his missteps on that same kind of platform?
People even find themselves watching golf events simply because he is involved or buying a product because his name is on it.
There is no disrespect to the companies that will continue to sponsor him, which seems to be the majority of them.
After all, his name does not seem to be on anything that adheres to family or an ounce of self-respect for your significant other.
You can always shave your face after you have been sleeping with a cocktail waitress with no guilt of which razor you are using.
It is pretty remarkable though that this man could continue to look at himself in the mirror everyday and swing away knowing he was ruining his life and so many of those around him, so much for a gentleman’s game.
His wife Elin should not have been so gentle and “used the driver,” as Jesper Parnevik so eloquently put it.
Polls are constantly showing that this event will not really change people’s view of Woods as a golfer. I feel like those polls will not hold up when he finds his way back into the spotlight and onto the gold course.
I guess he really is just another athlete who thought he was invincible.
He has been in the public eye since he was a young child and I wonder if he thought he would have made a decision like this one day and basically ruin his image in the eyes of so many people around the world?
I understand he is not perfect and that he makes mistakes, but he is probably the most well known and recognized athlete of our time, if not of all time.
This guy has found himself under a microscope for some time and really did have it all.
None of us saw this guy having two left feet, but he does. They couldn’t keep from stumbling back into the bedroom with a woman other than his wife.
Unfortunately, now he has to take the bad with the all of that good he has accumulated over the years.
Maybe next time he will just go and do his job for the allotted hours instead of working a little later into the night.
