As I write this, I understand how much of a hypocrite I look like with my following statements and ideas.I was involved in a scene of pointless banter with my older sister. As we talked, she turned some music on and Taylor Swift began singing. I looked at her with a sense of disgust.

I have discussed this pointless issue in the past. I have replayed my position on her and everything that represents her more than a Lil Wayne mix tape . love to No Ceilings and Weezy for continuing to murder tracks on a regular basis.

Anyway, my sister looked over at me and basically told me she had a problem with my facial expression, or just my face in general. She then proceeded to tell me how I felt about Swift and how she knew I secretly loved her music.

We moved into an arena of the majority, debating about pop culture.

This is not about that debate; this is about a comment she made that has put me in a position of stepping back from the obvious.

There was a consensus, amongst the two of us, that her music was incredibly cheesy and lacked a depth for the most part. Then, she said, “The world needs cheesy right now.”

It was kind of funny how she said it because of how ridiculous the conversation had gotten at that point. Regardless, she had a point that I began to evaluate on a serious level because of the state of the world at this moment from the different angles.

Now is one of those moments where we need something to make us smile or just take us away from all the pain that is presented to us from day to day. When we turn on the majority of the channels that are not playing old episodes of Frasier or Becker, we often see people in terrible situations or circumstances.

We see countries around the world constantly hit by tragedy in different forms. Then, we see an incredibly unpredictable economy and economists predicting numbers that are virtually impossible to know; that is one hell of a day job. On top of all these, Lane Kiffin left Knoxville in a burning fashion, you can decide whether the pun is intended or not.

I find myself in a constant downward spiral because of all those things happening around me. One of the only things that can put a different momentum probably comes from the music I find plugged into my ears. Even then, there is a constant questioning and discussion of what the real meaning of these lyrics is saying?

This is where Taylor Swift comes back into the picture.

She has her spots where her lyrical abilities stretch even her mind. However, for the most part, she holds onto the shore and does not really dive too deep into the water, let alone let go of the sand.

Once again, that is not the point. The point is that she has the ability to take us away from our days of trivial pursuits and no smiles times, even if her songs sometimes reek of these at times. I mean, I will never forget when I was 15 and really had it all figured out, or when my first kiss actually meant something, and then there was the time I realized this love was so re-eal.

Swift is someone that comes along for every new semi-generation. There are many of these clones that follow a similar standard in musical genius and songwriting ability. The Disney Channel in many capacities is a breeding ground for the next pre-teen lover’s fan clubs.

I do have this understanding of how talented she is from an organization of her tour to her abilities from an instrumental standpoint, of which I would never challenge her. She is one of those bright spots that allow us to see a truly humble and good person doing quality work that we can listen to and appreciate on a very shallow level.

Taylor Swift is someone who can take an acoustic guitar and really take you to a place; this magical place where the words and the ideas that are swirling around us do not matter for a few mere moments. I can be just as cheesy as Taylor Swift.

So, maybe I had her dubbed wrong from the start. I could have possibly seen the cookie cutter and marked her off before looking at everything that is entailed in making the cookie and whom the cookie actually serves. Maybe my sister was right, “The world needs cheesy right now.
