Over a decade ago, Julie Hellwich started her own business from her kitchen table. Her Smart Women products became an international success and Hellwich became a social entrepreneur, advocating for companies to contribute to the good of the communities around them, not from a desire to increase profit, but because that is the right thing to do.Hellwich will speak at a free, public event on Friday, March 26, at noon in the East Tennessee Room of East Tennessee State University’s D.P. Culp University Center. Her address is entitled “Smart Women Thirst for Knowledge.”

Hellwich and Girl Babies Inc. joined with the League of Women Voters of the United States to form the Smart Women 2004 Elect to Make a Difference Tour, an effort to inspire women to become engaged in leadership and elections in their communities.

Smart Women products have been featured on HGTV, as well as in Ladies’ Home Journal, GLAMOUR and the Washington Post.
