I am a student at ETSU for the second time in my life. I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism several years ago and am slowly becoming reacquainted with this campus as a grad student in the Professional Communication program. A lot has changed since I was here the first go round. There are buildings on campus that didn’t exist. There are new professors, new programs, and even a nice new carillon that plays the alma mater every afternoon.
I guess the main thing that’s changed is that everyone here on campus is so much younger than I remember them being back then. OK, I realize you guys are the exact age you’re supposed to be. In reality, I’m (wait for it..) slightly older. But despite our age difference, I have to say one thing about you all – you’re hilarious.
As I’ve walked around campus these last few months, I’ve heard snippets of some really funny conversations. And it makes every overwhelming day in grad school a little bit better to be able to laugh at some of the things you have to say.
At this point, I’ve decided these things are so funny, I can’t keep them to myself. What if I could make your day a little brighter by sharing? From now on, I’ll be writing this column, and it will be filled with amusing and provocative things I hear at and around ETSU. I encourage you to read this for your daily giggle fix and come to our Web site, www.easttennessean.com to leave funny things you’ve heard, too.
If you recognize something you said, pat yourself on the back. You’ve made me – and now the rest of campus – smile. Keep up the good work.
