Students are not the only ones bothered by the constant weather changes. Construction workers on the Buc Ridge Phase III project have been feeling the rain and snow. Architect for the project Peter Heimbach says that the workers have definitely been experiencing some weather troubles.”It has delayed it some,” said Heimbach. “They haven’t applied for an extension yet, but they could … over nine months they have gone 30 days over the allotted weather days given.”

Workers have been fighting through the conditions for the most part. Once they finished the roof of each section in late winter, they were able to retreat to indoor construction whenever the weather turned on them. Still, the exact finishing time of both pods is uneven. The east pod is actually further along in the building process than the other one. Director of Housing Dr. Bonnie Burchett commended the construction company on its hard work.

“The rain and snow definitely affected them when they started the construction back in the fall,” said Burchett. “They did get a little behind just like any construction team would, but they made a plan to make up for the time and they’ve really pulled together the resources to make it happen.”

Barring more violent weather, construction should be finished by the time students are ready to come back to school for the fall semester.

Despite the delay, workers have been making up for lost time to assure the project will be complete before the end of the summer.

“It was a struggle . but they’re moving pretty fast so it should be finished on time,” said Burchett. “It is due to be finished July 1.”

Heimbach predicts his crew will meet the deadline early, hopefully in June.
