With the draft only a few days away, teams are in the process of scouting the prospects one last time before finalizing their draft board. NFL teams analyze drill results and pro days, film of prospective players’ college careers and background checks.

With so many different factors affecting where a particular prospect will land leaves fans with so much uncertainty as to who their favorite team will select.

Fortunately, my mock draft is here. A mock draft is a prediction as to who the teams will select on draft day. This mock draft will not only show which players each team will select, but an explanation for the pick and other possibilities for that selection.

Lets take a look at how the NFL Draft could play out:

1) St. Louis Rams-Sam Bradford/QB/Oklahoma

The Rams finished the 2009 season 1-15 and have held one of the top two picks in the last three drafts. This franchise will be looking to rebuild and has needs in just about every position except running back, free safety and middle linebacker.

During the offseason, the Rams released starting quarterback Marc Bulger to avoid paying him a bonus. Releasing Bulger leaves the Rams without a quarterback who has NFL experience, meaning that the Rams will almost have to select Bradford.

Even though Bradford suffered an injury in 2009, he threw the ball well on his pro day and showed that the injury had little effect on his ability in the long term. He is very accurate with his passes and may be the most accurate quarterback in this draft class.

The good news for the Rams is that Bradford is mentally ready to learn the offense and contribute immediately. With the Rams needing a boost on offense, expect Bradford to start right away.

While the Rams are expected to select Bradford, it would probably be in their best interest to look elsewhere with the first overall pick. Bradford will be a good quarterback, but the Rams need to improve the offensive line and the wide receivers. Without the players to protect the quarterback or weapons to make the offense potent, the issue of quarterback is irrelevant.

The best decision for St. Louis would be to select a defensive tackle like Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy. Defensively the Rams were unable to stop anything. Suh and McCoy would give them more talent on the defensive line which they desperately need.

Then in the second round St. Louis could select Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, giving them the franchise quarterback they are looking for.

2) Detroit Lions- Ndamukong Suh/DT/Nebraska

Coach Jim Schwartz will be looking to add a big play defensive tackle to the defensive line. Schwartz, the former defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, ideally wants an Albert Haynesworth-type player that can disrupt plays in the backfield and can take up multiple blocks, freeing up other players on the line. Suh can be that kind of player, and adding that talent will leave Detroit in much better shape.

The other choice that the Lions could go for is Gerald McCoy, but Suh makes more sense with Schwartz’s defensive scheme.

3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Gerald McCoy/DT/Oklahoma

The second Oklahoma Sooner comes of the board with Tampa selecting McCoy. McCoy will add an inside presence on the defensive line that coach Raheem Morris likes. They run a Cover 2 defense and McCoy has great strength in addition to his quick play. McCoy will be able to take care of any gap assignments that he is given.

4) Washington Redskins- Russell Okung/OT/Ok. St.

Without question one of the biggest stories of the offseason involved a trade between Philadelphia and Washington. The trade sent quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Redskins in exchange for draft picks in 2010 and 2011.

Now that the newest Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has brought in a franchise quarterback, he will now turn his attention to replacing the left tackle spot which was left vacant after Chris Samuels announced his retirement.

This leaves Washington in a great spot to select Okung. He has everything that a left tackle needs. He has long arms and good balance, which means that he can keep pass rushers away from the quarterback.

5) Kansas City Chiefs- Trent Williams/OT/Oklahoma

The third Oklahoma player in five picks will be selected after the Chiefs pick Trent Williams. Williams has great strength and can really open up running lanes for a running back.

He will be a terrific run blocker for the Chiefs. Williams does need to work on blocking speedy pass rushers as he does not have the lateral speed to catch up.
