The ETSU Opera Theatre will present “Captain Lovelock” and “Beauty and the Beast” on Friday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 18, at 3 p.m. in the Bud Frank Theatre on the ground floor of Gilbreath Hall.”Captain Lovelock,” a comic opera, is a story of a widow who still has dreams of marrying. This all-female opera written by American composer John Duke features lovable characters and delivers many laughs.

Vittorio Biannini, an Italian-born American composer, tells the familiar story of “Beauty and the Beast” in a new way for audience members of all ages.

Students in the ETSU Opera Theatre perform under the direction of Karen Smith, instructor of voice in the ETSU Department of Music.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

‘Chopin 200’ series to conclude with performance of the composer’s dances

The dances of Chopin will be the focus of the final concert in the East Tennessee State University Department of Music’s “Chopin 200” series commemorating the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

On Saturday, April 17, in Mathes Hall, Dr. Alison Deadman, associate professor of music, will deliver a pre-concert talk entitled “Feminine Ending?” at 7:10 p.m., followed by the 7:30 p.m. concert featuring ETSU students and faculty in the performance of some of Chopin’s dances, which include the mazurka, polonaise and waltz.
