Although final attendance numbers have not been determined, an official from the Student Government Association said that attendance was low.”Attendance for the show was certainly less than last semester,” SGA President Brian Bowman said. “We had a good turnout, but it was not as high as usual.”
Former American Idol contestant Jordin Sparks headlined the concert, along with Lupe Fiasco and B.O.B. The concert, which was held Thursday, April 22 in the Mini-Dome on campus was sponsored by the SGA.
Bowman said he thinks the reason behind the lower attendance rates were due to the waning of Sparks’ popularity with students.
“When we sent out the voting sheets six months ago, Jordin Sparks and Lupe Fiasco ranked sixth and seventh on the list,” Bowman said. “While that seems pretty high on the list, after six months an artists’ fame can wane and students could lose interest.”
Bowman said that although the attendance was low, the opening act by B.O.B. really helped get students interested in the show.
“We got B.O.B. fairly early and he progressively got more popular leading up the concert,” Bowman said. “I think that a lot of the students were excited to see him perform.”
Bowman said that he thinks the show was received well by the students overall.
“I’ve had several students tell me they thought the show was great,” Bowman said. “In general, it has gotten very positive reviews.”
