The Lady Bucs belted four home runs, including two by junior Katie Henderson and the ETSU softball team swept Western Carolina on Wednesday night from the ETSU Softball Complex.ETSU got a clutch three-run scoring double from freshman Lucy Schneider in game one and the Lady Bucs cruised their way to a 5-1 victory. In the nightcap, Henderson became the ninth Lady Buccaneer player to blast two homers in a game, and junior right-hander Jessica Duncan tossed a two-hit shutout as the Blue and Gold capped off the sweep with an 8-0 six-inning win.

With the sweep ETSU improved to 20-34, while the Catamounts had their three-game winning streak snapped and dipped to 10-37.

Freshman outfielder Lucy Schneider cleared the bases with three-run scoring double in the third and sophomore righty Shelby Morris allowed one unearned run in seven innings of work as ETSU defeated Western Carolina, 5-1, in the opener.

Morris, who improved to 3-6 with the victory, scattered eight hits and struck out a career high seven Catamount hitters.

The Lady Bucs tacked on solo runs in the fourth and fifth to extend their advantage to 5-0. ETSU scored its fourth run on a throwing error by Western Carolina’s third baseman, and senior Trisha Massenzo rounded out the scoring attack when her two-out single to center plated Jett -putting the Blue and Gold up five runs.

Morris was in line for her first collegiate shutout; however, a throwing error by Massenzo on a pickoff at first, led to an unearned run for Western Carolina. After Kristen Gay led off the sixth with a single to left-center, she advanced to second on Massenzo’s throwing error. Then, with two outs and Gay on second, Jordan Fulton drove home her teammate with an RBI single up the middle – making it a 5-1 contest.

Morris wasn’t fazed by letting the shutout go out the window as she retired four of the final five hitters she faced to pick up the win.

Katie King suffered the loss (2-21) for the Catamounts after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits in six innings of work.

Katie Henderson led off the third and fifth innings with solo homers, and in total the Lady Bucs blasted four bombs, as ETSU swept Western Carolina with an 8-0 six-inning victory.

Jessica Duncan recorded her second shutout of the season by holding the Catamounts to a pair of hits en route to improving to 9-8 on the year.

Duncan received all the offense she would need in the bottom of the first when Trisha Massenzo belted a three-run homer and Sam Lower followed suit with a solo shot two plays later to put ETSU ahead, 4-0.

The Lady Bucs received a sac-fly RBI off the bat from Katy Jett in the second and Henderson’s first solo shot extended ETSU’s margin to, 6-0.

ETSU out-hit the Catamounts, 12-2, thanks to Lucy Schneider’s 3-for-4 effort, while Massenzo and Henderson each posted two hits apiece.

The Lady Bucs look to close out the 2010 season on positive note when ETSU hosts Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. at the ETSU Softball Complex.
