It’s summer time, so you know what that means.Well, besides the whole sleeping in, working overtime and no longer having to study for hours on end thing.

Yes, it means you get to make up for all those lost concerts during the semester because they were in the middle of the week and you had an 8:15 class.

For those new to the area, one good thing that Johnson City has to offer is music venues.

At most any given time, there is usually something going on at either the Hideaway or the Acoustic Coffeehouse. To keep up with events, “Like” them on facebook.

Other venues that feature live music – and usually bigger bands – include (but not limited to) places like Capone’s, Chrome and also Freedom Hall.

As a frequent concert goer, I have found myself attending probably too many concerts for my own good, which will inevitably damage both my wallet and my hearing.

Even so, I have found that the atmosphere of live music is a truly unique experience. Because with any event, no matter how much it is enjoyed watching on TV or listening to it at home, being there is infinitely better.

I have found that the smaller venues, such as the ones in local bars (like Chrome and Capone’s) is a better commodity of people, and the band members seem to be able to connect more with the crowd.

Plus, you have a better chance of getting closer to the band and a lesser chance of getting squashed by the mosh pit.

In short, concerts are amazing.

If you find yourself with some free time and free nights over the summer, be sure to follow the local bars and clubs for live, local music.
