ETSU holds an annual spring project for the Advanced Directing class. This past spring, a series of “One Act” plays were performed in the Bud Frank Theatre.”[Even though] it might not be your cup of tea, each play is so different, that people found something they liked,” said Bobby Funk, the professor of the class.
Directors CJ Ferguson, Clayton Van Huss are undergraduates, while Kenny Tedford is a graduate student, pursuing a master’s in storytelling and theatre.
Funk said there was a feel for each of the director’s sense of humor in the plays.
“Crab Cakes,” directed by Tedford, portrayed a married couple at a fancy restaurant, with their waitress. This play had an interpreter, to sign out what each person is saying, since Tedford is deaf. “The Rising of the Moon,” written by Lady Gregory in 1907 and directed by Van Huss, is set during the Irish rebellion against the British outlaws.
Ferguson directed “The Mystery of the Castle of the Monk of Falconara,” a murder mystery and comedy.
“I have really enjoyed the opportunity to be in the play,” said Daniel Potts. “This show is a lot of fun and the other actors are extremely talented.
“The script CJ has selected is a great choice for a student-directed piece and he has done a great job steering the cast in the right direction.
