Gurney, Jr. Aug. 19-21 and 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Bud Frank Theatre on the East Tennessee State University campus. The East Tennessee Repertory Theatre is a collaborative effort between equity actors and interns from ETSU and Northeast State Community College.

Set in the dining room of a typical American household, the show offers a series of interrelated scenes – some humorous, some sad, some touching – that take place in this room where family members gather for meals and other special occasions.

These vignettes range from a father lecturing his son on grammar and politics; a boy returning from boarding school to discover his mother’s infidelity; a senile grandmother who doesn’t recognize her own sons at Christmas dinner; and an unhappily married daughter pleading to return home.

Performing in “The Dining Room are Doug Reiser,” Matthew Huffman, Kenneth Tedford, Jr., Herb Parker, Travis Welch, Terry Lynn Arrington, Patrick Cronin, Jessica Adams, Kacey Tiller, Mithra Alavi, and Elizabeth Sloan. Crew members are Alan Karp, Scott Koenig, Aaron Ashley, Savannah Arwood, Sean F.L. Read, and Chris Steward.

Bobby Funk is directing “The Dining Room,” with Scott Koenig as designer/technical director and John Kaywood as stage manager.

The actors change roles, personalities, and ages throughout the show, playing everyone “from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids.”

“The Dining Room” is produced through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.
