OK, quick survey. Raise your hand if you knew you could get up to six personal training sessions for free at the Basler Center for Physical Activity. For the rest of you, congratulations. You no longer have an excuse to avoid the gym.

The CPA has a program in which every student or faculty member can get six free sessions with a certified personal trainer.

The CPA employees personal trainers who have gone through the certification classes required to show that they know how to create workout plans and show each of their clients what exercises will be most effective for the goals that they are trying to reach.

The program is set up so that the trainers can tailor a workout program exactly to a specific client.

“The client gets to keep the routine that the trainer develops with their goals in mind,” says Wilemon. “[We] give all patrons a wonderful opportunity to jump start their fitness plans by being able to work one-on-one with a certified personal trainer.”

The CPA’s personal training program is designed so that no matter what fitness level a person is at, from the “just-starting” to the “gym rat,” they will benefit from the sessions.

“If a patron is new to exercise, a trainer can show them how to use the equipment safely and instruct on proper spotting techniques,” says Jeremy Ellingburg, a personal trainer at the CPA. “For the recreational user, a trainer can help with technique and program drafting to help improve the quality of a client’s workouts.

“For those who enjoy a higher level of fitness, a trainer can help to tweak and perfect a training program using scientifically demonstrated design techniques that will help the client get to the next level in their fitness pursuits.”

Personal trainers at the CPA are also there for when the client’s motivation falters.

This is one of the ways that training with a professional can be more beneficial than going solo.

“The main incentive for working with a trainer is to help you focus on results and stop wasting your time doing inefficient workouts,” says Fitness Coordinator Nani Wilemon. “A personal trainer has a plan and will help you get maximum results in minimum time.”

After the free sessions are over, the client can continue to train with their instructor for only sixty dollars per every six sessions. The CPA is open on Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 2-9 p.m.
