I went for a run this week and I have to admit, it was the first bit of exercise I’ve done in almost a month. Between vacation and school starting back, there has been no time in my schedule for any type of exercise. Not even the fact that I work at the CPA has helped me fit working out in my schedule. Sometimes it feels like I’m just too busy to fit a workout into my already over-scheduled week.
This week, I finally forced myself to wear my exercise clothes to class and just simply get out there and do it. I had 40 minutes in between class and work and I made that 40 minutes count.
I dropped my bag off at work and started jogging toward State of Franklin. I’m not going to lie here. Running or exercising after a couple of weeks of no activity can be pretty painful.
I made it across campus and by the time I saw the redlight at University Parkway, I was hurting pretty badly and feeling quite guilty.
At just over half a mile, I was ready to quit. Having worked myself up last semester to over three miles per run, this half- mile was nowhere near what I should be able to run.
I persevered though. I made it back across campus and to a little over a mile before plopping down in the grass and not only trying to catch my breath, but also shaking my head in shame.
There should be no excuse when it comes to exercise. I should fit it in so that I don’t lose all of the hard work I’ve put in, and find myself a little bit more out of shape than I was a few weeks ago.
Sadly, life can get busy. We can’t always make the time for things we wish we could.
After my run, I walked the last little bit back to the CPA, sweating and red-faced, hoping that the next run I find myself on won’t be three weeks away.
Later that day I printed out a CPA fitness class schedule and marked some of the classes that will fit my school schedule this year.
Looking at all of the highlighted classes, I realized that maybe I can fit exercise in if I really want to.
It doesn’t always have to be “not now,” “no time today” or “I’ll do it next week.
