ETSU continued Atlantic Sun Conference play at home Friday against the Lipscomb Bisons. Coming off a win against A-Sun rival Campbell, the Lady Bucs continued this streak against Lipscomb, 2-0.The game started slowly as both teams looked to break through the defenses but both the Bisons and Bucs were unable to.
The Lady Bucs were the first to break through for a shot off a corner kick that bounced to a Lady Buc player whose shot just went wide of the goal. Lipscomb answered right back with a shot of their own but ETSU goalie Megan Masch jumped over a Lipscomb player to get the ball, keeping the game scoreless.
ETSU finally broke the gridlock in the 30th minute after Lucy Goffe passed the ball to Courtney Deem, who drilled the ball into the net from 25-yards out.
“I knew I could beat the keeper so I just lofted it into the goal,” said Deems.
This gave ETSU the 1-0 lead at halftime over the Lipscomb. At the resumption of play Lipscomb immediately went on the offensive. The Lady Bucs continued to struggle to get the ball out of their territory until a quick break by a Lady Buc gave ETSU a chance to settle back into the game.
ETSU finally got back in the game after a quick break by Kayla White, who bounced the ball off the goalie before putting it in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead for ETSU.
“The keeper was coming out to get the ball.” said White. “She lost control and the ball just dropped in front of me.”
The Lady Bucs were not done yet. A cross by Tori Head, in front of the goal, looked like it might make it a 3-point game but no one was able to finish the ball. Lipscomb, looking to keep it from a shut out, went on an all-out attack down field.
The ETSU defense stood strong along with some great saves by the Lady Buc goalie Megan Masch. ETSU held on and overcame Lipscomb for a 2-0 win. ETSU continues conference play at home against Belmont before hitting the road for a two-game stay in Florida.
