Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain ) won a pair of matches to lead the ETSU women’s tennis team at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.In the B Flight singles draw, Jaime knocked off Sydney Grant of Richmond in the opening round 6-1, 6-4. Then, Jaime defeated Carmen Jackman of Maryland Baltimore County, 6-3, 6-2 in quarterfinal play. Jaime will take on Rebecca Shine of Louisville in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) also advanced to semifinal action as she defeated Yilian Zhang of East Carolina 6-1, 6-1, in the D Flight singles draw. She will take on Elizabeth Sims of Richmond on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) and Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) also earned first round victories, but both fell in quarterfinal action.

Holtzhausen teamed with Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) to defeat the UNC Wilmington team of Blank/Lee 8-4, in the opening round of the Flight A doubles draw. The duo will take on the Winthrop team of Hererra/Portiolli in the quarterfinals on Saturday morning.

Andreazzza and Voinea also earned a first round doubles victory as they defeated Galainena/Rauh of Davidson 8-1. They will take on Perotta/Roth of Penn State, Saturday morning in the quarterfinals.

The event features players from Davidson, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, James Madison, Liberty, Louisville, Marshall, Maryland-Baltimore County, Radford, Richmond, Penn State, UNC Wilmington, William & Mary, Winthrop and host Virginia Tech.

Saturday’s action opens with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Finals in all flights will be held on Sunday.
