A two-goal performance by North Florida’s Lauren Hopfensperger was the difference Friday night as the ETSU women’s soccer team fell to the Ospreys 2-0 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.The Bucs (6-4-1, 2-2-0 A-Sun) were outshot 18-8 in the contest by UNF (4-8-0, 3-2-0 A-Sun), while the Ospreys led in shots on goal 5-4. ETSU had the advantage in corners 6-4.
The first half was scoreless as the Buccaneers only managed three shots in the half.
UNF jumped out in front in the 70th minute when Denisse Soltero hooked up with Hopfensperger for a goal from the left side of the penalty area.
The Bucs had a couple chances to even the match late in the match as Rachel Van Horn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Ramey Kerns (Kings Mountain, N.C.) had good looks, but UNF’s Brittany Hahn came up with some big saves to keep ETSU off of the board.
Hopfensperger increased the North Florida advantage in the 86th minute as she settled a pass from Keara Murphy and netted a shot from inside the 18-yard box to make the score 2-0 Ospreys.
