Megan Devine is no stranger to being on the same court as ETSU head coach Lindsey Devine. After all, she’s been around her mother all her life.”She started coaching my travel team in eighth grade,” said Devine. “She really has taught me everything I know.”

Coach Devine was glad to have her daughter join her squad.

“As her parents, we talked to her about exploring all of her options, but she felt like this was the best place,” said coach Devine. “I didn’t really want to see her on the other side of the net. I’d hate to beat her.”

Megan has never used her last name as an advantage in her career. She put in the work at Dobyns-Bennett High School.

In 2008, she earned All-State, All-Region, All-Conference and All-District honors.

She was also named Northeast Tennessee Player of the Year. Although she chose to go with volleyball collegiately, in high school she was a two-sport athlete where she earned All-Region and MVP honors on the basketball court.

In 2009, Devine led her Dobyns-Bennett volleyball team to the State Championship and was named TSSAA tournament MVP.

She was selected to play for the Team USA Red at the High Performance Championships in Florida, selected as a finalist for the Schelde National Player of the Year award, and was named the Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year.

When her final season of high school ended, there was no question where Devine was headed.

“I’ve always wanted to play at the next level growing up around ETSU,” said Devine. “I thought it was the best decision for me to come and play for my mom.

“There was never a doubt in my mind. I always had my goal set for ETSU.”

“I win in both situations,” says coach Devine. “I’m getting a great player and I’m also getting a great opportunity to see my daughter play and I wouldn’t be able to do that if she had gone somewhere else.
