For the men, Daniel Ashley of Johnson City, not pictured, is a junior majoring in human services. He is the president of the Sigma Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and an active member of NAACP and the ETSU Gospel Choir. His parents are Norman Ashley of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Marilyn Ashley of Lanett, Ala.

Nathan Heinsohn will also seek the title. He is a senior from Maryville, majoring in biology with a minor in business. He is a member of the ETSU Marksmanship Club, president of the Centennial Hall Dormitory, continuing education chairperson and public relations chairperson of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the founding member and president of the ETSU Pre-Dental Club. His parents are Penni and Gil Heinsohn of Maryville.

Others include Adam Lambert of Jonesville, Va., a junior majoring in English. He is an active member of ETSU’s POLO and president of the ETSU Creative Society. His parents are Greg and Melinda Lambert of Jonesville, Va.

Nick Mitchell of Greeneville is a senior, majoring in political science. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, ETSU Inter Fraternity Council, ETSU College Republicans, ETSU Student Government Association, Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature, ETSU Presbyterian Campus Ministry and ETSU Diversity Dialogue Task Force. His parents are Rick and Eileen Mitchell of Greeneville.

Jean-Paul Philippe of Johnson City is a senior majoring in psychology. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, POLO and the Dean’s List. He has been honored as a Kappa Delta Greek God and with the Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship. He has volunteered for Boys & Girls Club, Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup, Johnson City Fish Out, Coalition for Kids Halloween Treat-or-Treat, Keep Kingsport Beautiful and Habitat for Humanity. His parents are Wayne and Darlene Philippe of Kingsport.

Eric Whetsel of Johnson City is a sophomore and a member of Phi Sigma Phi and POLO. His parents are Jimmy and Gaylia Whetsel of Johnson City.

Women include Katie Bevins of Johnson City, a junior, majoring in early childhood development. She is a member of Small Miracles Equine Therapy, Service Committee of Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Delta Pi, Student Tennessee Education Association and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.

Rachel Collins is a junior from Mosheim, Tenn., majoring in nursing. She is an active member of the Student Nurses Association, University Honors College and is vice president of recruitment for Alpha Delta Pi. Her parents are Steve and Cindy Collins of Greeneville.

McKayla Johnson of Johnson City is a senior majoring in biology. She is the social chairman, former secretary and vice president of operations of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was honored as 2009 Most Outstanding Greek Woman and 2010 ETSU Student Leader. She is also the president of the Pan-Hellenic Executive Council, a member of ETSU Honors College and a medical professions advisement peer mentor. Her parents are Jeff Johnson of Kingsport and Vivian Thacker of Mt. Carmel.

Brooke Jones of Johnson City is a sophomore, majoring in microbiology and pre-optometry. She is a member of the ETSU cheerleading squad and the Dean’s List. Her campus involvement includes hosting the Alumni Cheerleading Banquet and assisting with the opening of Einstein’s Bagel and ETSU’s Move-In Day. Her parents are Randy and Tammy Jones of Johnson City.

Madison McCall of Johnson City is a senior majoring in public health/administration. She is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Admissions Ambassadors, Leadership House and the Public Health Student Association. She is also a volunteer for Buddy Walk, Coalition for Kids, Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s, Go Green campus events and Relay for Life. Her parents are Jim and Barbara McMillan of Pounding Mill, Va.

Alex Minter of Gray is a junior, majoring in exercise science. She is a member of the Dean’s List and is a Preview and orientation leader. She has been senator and chair of the public relations committee for the Student Government Association. She is a daughter of Paul Minter of Atlanta and Pamela Minter Motley of Seymour, Tenn.

Shelby Nordlund of Johnson City is a sophomore, majoring in anthropology. She is a member of Alpha Phi Omega and a volunteer for Coalition for Kids, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Small Miracles, Give Kids the World, Campus Clean Ups and Ronald McDonald House.
