What’s the biggest regret of your life? More than 10,000 people have anonymously – and bravely – posted their own shocking answers to that question at www.SecretRegrets.com. Now, hundreds of the most jaw-dropping, heartbreaking and even inspirational confessions have been compiled into a fascinating new book: “Secret Regrets: What if you had a Second Chance?” by Kevin Hansen.

The regrets featured in the book include everything from the expected to the unimaginable, including the father who regrets not being able to help his drug-addicted son before he takes his life and the junior high student who regrets allowing her gym teacher to seduce her into an inappropriate relationship.

After many of these “Secret Regrets” were posted, project creator Kevin Hansen began witnessing something overwhelmingly positive arising from the project.

“As shocking and heartbreaking as some of the regrets were, I was amazed to see the outpouring of unconditional support, compassion and empathy that surfaced in the form of comments and feedback left for the original posters of the regrets. Complete strangers logged on and began reaching out to complete strangers – letting them know that no matter what they’ve done, or what they’ve been through – they are not alone.”

Hansen repeatedly observed how the Secret Regrets project was not only changing people’s lives – it actually began saving lives.

“People were seeing others make it through the same kinds of difficult situations they are facing, and realized there’s hope for them to make it through too. One young lady posted that she regretted she didn’t have the courage to tell anyone she planned on ending her life this past New Year’s Eve.

People began responding, pleading with her to tell someone. They offered their own personal stories of making it through a similar situation. They posted their own e-mail addresses and phone numbers, offering to be there to talk. Hotline and crisis numbers were posted. And two days later the original poster came back and posted an update, saying how the response from the “Secret Regrets” community gave her the strength to ask for – and get – the help she desperately needed.”

Hansen says the book helps people to finally put guilt, regret and pain behind them, which allows them to move on with a new perspective.

Hansen’s hope for those who read the “Secret Regrets” book is that they realize the incredible power of healing that lies within revealing. “We can’t ignore the pain our regrets have caused, but we can acknowledge it and put it behind us. Otherwise, it will rob us of living life to the fullest.”
