The Lady Bucs failed to get a much-needed win Friday night when they fell to the Appalachian State Lady Mountaineers 75-56.With this loss, ETSU keeps a winning record at 2-1 on the season but head coach Karen Kemp and the team are not where they hoped to be heading into their four-game road trip.

“We really needed this game tonight,” said Kemp. “We wanted to be 3-0 before we got on the road because it doesn’t get any easier from here.”

ETSU was playing from behind right from the start. After letting the Bucs score a few easy buckets, Appalachian State took off on an 11-1 run. Most of these points came from near the basket. This would turn out to be the big difference in the game for the Lady Mountaineers as they would outscore the Bucs in the paint 54-22.

“All of our inside kids worked very hard tonight,” said Appalachian State head coach Darcie Vincent. “They did everything well.”

The Lady Bucs did make a run at the game late in the first half. As she has done twice already this season, senior guard Tara Davis provided an offensive spark for her team with two 3-pointers that tied up the game with six minutes to go. Davis’s effort was one of the few highlights for ETSU.

“We just couldn’t get any momentum going on the inside or outside,” said Davis after the game.

The real nail in the coffin for the Lady Bucs was a 27-8 second half run for Appalachian State that included a big offensive lift off the bench from junior guard Canesha Edwards who had 11 points and five rebounds in only nine minutes of play in the half.

“She pretty much finished the game for us with her jump shots and rebounds,” said Vincent after the game.

The Lady Bucs begin their four-game road trip in Columbus, Ohio Nov. 22. They will return home to face conference opponent Campbell on Dec. 20.
