The ETSU student Entrepreneurs’ Club will welcome Johnson City Commissioner Marcy Walker as its speaker on Monday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. in 345 Sam Wilson Hall.Walker will discuss the challenges and barriers faced during the development of Niswonger Children’s Hospital. She has been involved for almost 15 years with the Mountain States Foundation, the fundraising arm of Mountain States Health Alliance, by serving on the board of directors, coordinating the Growing Healthy program and serving as chair of the Foundation’s Capital Campaign Committee responsible for raising $25 million toward the construction of Niswonger Children’s Hospital.
In 2008, Walker helped create Johnson City’s Dispensary of Hope, a free pharmacy for the uninsured. She also serves on the board of the Downtown Clinic.
Elected to the Johnson City Board of Education in 1999 and 2003, Walker was a successful candidate for the Johnson City Commission in 2007. She received a Tennessee Supreme Court appointment to the Tennessee Commission on Legal Education and Specialization four years ago.
