Men’s golf traveled to Rocky Face, Georgia, to compete in the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The event consisted of three days, starting on Friday, Sept. 6 and concluding on Sunday, Sept. 8.
“I’m excited for this team this year,” says head coach Jake Amos.
The first day of events saw the Bucs place 10 in the leaderboards, competing against 14 other schools. Juniors Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tennessee) and Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) led with a tie for 14 for completing a 1-over par round of 73 within the first 18 holes.
Go finished with the first eagle of the season along with consistent birdies and a 1-over par. Rhea finished with three birdies and two bogeys, while compiling a 1-over-par 37 and an even par 36.
Go finished strong on the second day, starting in 14 and finishing four. Go collected a 2-under-par round of 70, grabbing a couple of birdies at the start. One bogey put the score 1-under-par for Go, until he finished with two birdies and a bogey.
Freshman Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) had a good outing after shooting a 6-over-par in the starting round. Davies concluded the first nine with a 2-over-par 37, collecting two birdies and a bogey with a 73.
Senior Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Florida) and freshman Samuel Espinosa (Pedren, Spain) posted big numbers for the Bucs the final round, finishing with 2-over-par.
Espinosa had momentum on his side in the early going collecting three consecutive birdies, while finishing 2-over-par with three bogeys and a sole birdie. Hulbert started out with 3-under-par due to three bogeys, before finishing an even par. Hulbert pushed ahead and finished 3-over-par in the final eight holes, and came away with 2-over par in the second round.
The Bucs concluded the tournament with a strong finish 17-par 881, ending with a tie with Charlotte and North Florida. Rhea and Go finished in the top 10. Rhea concluded with a 3-under-par (69), tying for 9, while Go finished 2-over-par 74, tying 9 as well.
The Bucs continue action at the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 16 through Sept. 17 held in Lake Forest, Illinois.
