This Halloween, Capone’s in downtown Johnson City will be throwing a Halloween Bash with performances by Natural Born Leaders and Demon Waffle. Headlining act Demon Waffle is no stranger to Halloween shows nor Capone’s.
“I’m sure we have played at Capone’s over a dozen times, and this is at least our fifth Halloween show,” Demon Waffle lead singer Tyler Parkhill said. “We used to play there quite a bit, less these days as other venues have had more open spots for booking us.”
Demon Waffle performs at a variety of venues around the area, but the Halloween show is their most special each year.
“Our Halloween shows, traditionally, are the most fun show of the year for us,” Parkhill said. “Folks typically dress up as we usually have a costume contest for less-than-stellar prizes, and we just try to have fun with it. We call it ‘Zombies Ate My Waffles’ in honor of a Super Nintendo game that literally none of your readers are old enough to know.”
For Demon Waffle, Capone’s will be having a costume competition throughout the night of the bash, which will have prizes and a section of exhibiting participants’ costumes.
“Whenever we have the costume contest, we let everyone come up on stage and show off their costume,” Parkhill said. “The prizes are mostly gag gifts, but they are super important or expensive, one or the other.”
Demon Waffle, having played at Capone’s many times, gave high praise for the venue.
“Capone’s has, bar none, the best acoustics of any place we’ve played in the area,” Parkhill said. “The only place we have played that sounded better was the Orange Peel and that is in part because of the investments in the stage and lighting. Plus, Alan is the best sound guy we have ever gotten to work with.”
The Halloween Bash is Oct. 31, starting at 10 p.m. and going until 1 a.m.
