The women’s soccer team closed the regular season in defeat against the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Oct. 27.

ETSU will be advancing onto the SoCon tournament. Overall for the season, the women are 5-10-4 and 1-6-2 of the SoCon.

“UNCG has a great team there’s no doubt about that,” said coach Adam Sayers.

The match was dominated entirely by the Spartans, who outshot ETSU 20-8 over the course of the game.

For the first 30 minutes of the game, the Blue and Gold were unable to create an opportunity for a goal. Both teams began to increase their chances adding multiple shots to the record after they became better adjusted to the field. Neither team had much success until just minutes before the end of the first half, when the Spartans made the first goal in the game by a low blow into the net.

The half ended with seven shots on goal by Greensboro to the Buccaneer’s five.

The Spartans dominated the second half in a similar way that they did the first half, ending with 12 shots on goal to the two gained by the Blue and Gold. At the 65th minute, UNCG doubled their advantage and secured the 2-0 scoring.

UNCG put up a fight to the very end of the match with seven of their 12 shots occurring after the final goal was scored.

“We knew from the start that it would be a tough game, but I feel that we matched them for the first 45 minutes of the game, as evidenced by the fact that nobody scored any goals,” said Sayers

Senior Elena Pisani (Milan, Italy) lead the Bucs in offense, using her aggressive energy to force the Spartan goalkeeper into two saves.

“We’re really going to miss the seniors,” said Sayers. “We have all three of them graduating this semester. And we’re very proud of them, and we hope that they remember this time in their lives.”

The Blue and Gold began the SoCon tournaments on Oct. 30 against The Citadel.
