On July 23, the ETSU men’s golf team was awarded the Golf Coaches Association of America academic honors for the 12th consecutive year.

Since 2009, the award has been given to teams with a combined GPA of at least 3.5 or higher.

ETSU golf was led by four academic All-Americans: Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Florida.), Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tennessee), Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) and Austin Carter (Kingsport, Tennessee), who finished the year with a 3.71 GPA while also succeeding on the golf course.

“They were ranked in the top 25 for most of the year,” said head coach Jack Amos. “So to have great grades and do well on the golf course, it’s pretty special to me.”

The Bucs managed to finish at the top of the Southern Conference in 2019, but Amos’s dedication to win in the classroom allowed the Bucs to continue their academic success.

Amos, a former assistant coach at the University of South Carolina, said, “It’s my first year as head coach, so it very important to me to keep that tradition going.”

“These guys are always trying to do their best, no matter if it’s on the golf course, in the classroom or even playing ping pong,” Amos added. “It really wasn’t surprising to see them accomplish this.”
