ETSU professor Elwood Watson has been appointed co-editor of the peer-reviewed journal, “Current Research Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities”.

“I was invited to be on the board of directors and every journal pretty much,” Watson said. “A lot of academic journals, particularly referee journals like this one, have a list of board of advisors who are designed to give advice and to look to ensure the well-being of the journal and progress of the journal. So, I was asked initially to be on the board of advisors, directors of the journal, and within a week, you know, several days later, they decided they wanted me to be the co-editor because of based on my academic credentials.”

Watson is currently a professor of social sciences and humanities at ETSU. He has authored multiple books and writes articles for medium.com.

He has also published pieces in many newspapers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post.

“This is different than academic writing, this is an academic journal,” said Watson. “This journal will accept academic publications. They have to be refered and accepted by the—they’re sent out to the reviewers or reviewers have to give them a thumbs up. At least two or three reviewers have to give a thumbs up before its published. So, it’s an academic referee journal, which is a journal of high quality.”

The “Current Research Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities” publishes articles on both domestic and international topics and subjects such as gender, race, pop culture and indigenous people.

“There is no specific topic is off limits, but anything that looks at social sciences and humanities in a very, very unique, specific, pretty much current area,” said Watson. “It’s a journal of current studies. So, it’s pretty much anything within the past two decades or anything like that.”
