The Buccaneer Anime Club has been having regular meetings on Tuesdays that allow students to take time off from school to relax and watch various shows together.

“Normally we would meet in person on campus,” said Buccaneer Anime Club President Braden Lay. “However, due to the risk of COVID this semester we are completely on Zoom.”

This change, however, has not changed the calm environment the anime club has been striving to create. Their weekly meetings last for three hours starting at 7 p.m., and they provide a small tasting of various shows that allow students an opportunity to destress from schoolwork.

“The first half-hour or so is dedicated to free discussion and conversation,” Lay said. “There is a general theme for each week ranging from style, genre, or topic. Three shows, two episodes each, are shown. The only exception being during the week before finals where we show an anime film.”

The shows range from popular to obscure, including titles such as “One Piece” and “Angel Beats”. On Oct. 27, the anime club will be hosting their annual costume contest over Zoom. This event will be a place to showcase any costumes or cosplays students may have worked on. The winners will be decided based on popular vote.

“First place would select the first anime we view the following week, second place the second anime, same goes for the third,” Lay said. “The only caveat is I must review the winners’ selections to make sure they are club appropriate.”

The Buccaneer Anime Club welcomes all new members. The sampler of shows they provide is also geared towards anyone new to anime, likes nerdy interests or someone simply looking for new content.
