Madison Hayton, a team leader from EcoNuts, discussed the festivities for the upcoming Kickoff Glow Party on Sept. 16.

EcoNuts, a group of student workers that is funded by the Department of Sustainability, promotes more environmental friendly initiatives and events on campus.

“This event will start at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16,” said Hayton. “We are encouraging students to join us for a night around Tri-Hall Field’s firepit.”

“The EcoNuts wish to instill sustainable habits and create environmental mindfulness in the event’s participants,” said Hayton. “We will provide refreshments, snacks and s’mores for all to enjoy.”

The purpose of the Kickoff Glow Party is to enjoy time with friends without electronics, encouraging students to turn off and unplug all electronics before leaving to go to the party.

Not only will the party have snacks and other various foods, but also many different prizes will be given out throughout the night. Free merchandise will be handed out to the party attendees, and a raffle will be taking place.

“We will also give away free glow-in-the-dark swag,” Hayton said. “Additionally, we will have a large prize bag full of sustainable goodies for the raffle winner.”

Hayton stated that EcoNuts is very excited for this event and hope to make it a tradition to have in the upcoming semester on Thursday nights.

“Our goal at these events is to have thought-provoking discussions about the environment, and help students learn more about ways they can help our planet,” said Hayton.

Hayton hopes that EcoNuts will encourage ETSU students to shut off electronics–even just for a night–and enjoy the glow party with fellow friends and classmates in the unplugged old-fashioned way.

EcoNuts believes that the glow party will be a success, and they are excited that students can gather again this semester for a great cause: a better environment for all.
